Why is Muscle Balance, Spinal and Postural Alignment Important?

Body symmetry, spinal, and postural alignment minimizes wear and tear on soft tissue and joints. In other words, good alignment and avoiding unnecessary friction reduces the risk of injury.

Musculoskeletal injuries occur in both sedentary and active populations.

Studies show that sedentary populations have a high risk for low back pain, pain in the hands, wrist, shoulders, and cervical spine. Highly active populations who participate in movements such as lifting, squatting, bending, pulling and pushing movements are at an increased risk for injury if the body is out of alignment. Movement on an misaligned frame causes abnormal wear patterns and may lead to pain or injury. The key to long-term musculoskeletal health is to realign the body in a preventative manner. It’s the same concept as maintaining your vehicle by getting alignments and rotating the tires.

the Musculoskeletal (MSD) Risk Program

identify your high-risk target populations

The MSD Risk Program begins with a risk appraisal of the organization’s participants to identify the target population segments with the highest MSD injury risk—Kinesics calls this a Risk IQ Score. Kinesics Risk IQ Report presents the data findings, identifies the level of MSD Risk per target population, and provides a recommendation for the organization’s next steps.

Organizations may elect to implement injury prevention programs throughout their organization, or in the high-risk target populations.

How is the risk iq score calculated?

The Risk IQ Score is the average of each individual evaluation in a target population.

How are the individual evaluations conducted?

A Kinesics Licensed Provider (KLP) conducts a series of range of motion measurements on participating employees. The data from the evaluation is entered into the Kinesics App for analysis. Evaluations can be performed in as little as 20 minutes and do not exceed 60 minutes in length. The length of the evaluation is determined by the number of measurements taken.

Participant Setup 

Participants remain in their regular work clothes and are only required to remove their shoes. The measurements are taken with the participant in the following positions; standing, seated, and lying face up. This process is non-exertional, non-invasive, and easy to incorporate into a regular workday.

Where is the evaluation conducted? 

Anywhere onsite that there is a 10 x 10 space that can be used to set up a portable table.

HALO

The traditional tool used to take range of motion measurements is a goniometer. Goniometers have up to 30 degree variances. The Halo Digital Device is a new technology and is the most accurate range of motion measurement tool on the market. The Halo boasts a 1 degree variance on measurements and is FDA and TGA approved. Kinesics endorses the use of Halo when entering data into the Kinesics App.
